August 26, 2002: In case of evacuation

On the first day of the last week of August 2002, the newspaper’s pages are filled with descriptions of the development of the situation surrounding the Spolana Chemical Company. Now the first heads are falling in Spolana. Radomír Věk has been removed from the position of director of the chemical company. At the same time, the company’s crisis team decides how to pump out twelve tons of chlorine, which is still at the chemical plant.

Transportation of the hazardous substance begins in the afternoon. A number of buses are stationed around the chemical plant just in case it is necessary to evacuate the residents of Neratovići and Lebec. Municipal Radio warns that you should keep windows closed and not go outside. Units of firefighters, police and soldiers are ready to intervene.

While people in Neratovtsi continue to deal mainly with chemists, others who have been affected by the flood are trying to report the help that the state will provide. According to the government, the priority is to help those who have lost a roof over their heads, repair roads and help entrepreneurs whose businesses have been washed away.

It is now clear that those who have completely lost their home or apartment will receive a non-refundable contribution of 150,000 kroner from the state. Interested parties can receive another 850 thousand kroner in the form of a loan with an interest rate of 2% and a maturity period of twenty years. Victims of damage can also apply for social support in the amount of 30,000 kroner for the family.
