Desserts are part of the menu. Otherwise, there is a risk that children will “break free of the chain,” as the therapist advises

The child learns what a normal healthy diet is in the family, says nutritionist Dana Hrenzova. Emphasizes the word learning. “Even a normal, healthy child needs to taste food at least ten times. Bitter and sour tastes have historically been associated with immaturity or toxins, and children should get used to them. Serve patiently, maybe twenty times, but don’t force.”

However, babies usually don’t need to get used to sweet tastes, they are naturally drawn to it, says the food therapist. But children need to try other tastes frequently, even if gradually and in small portions.

What if the child does not eat enough? What if I eat too much? What exactly is a healthy eating habit? Hear Swings with Dietitian Dana Hrnčířová

“Don’t give up. Even if the child does not like it after the second or third try. Gradually, parents can get to the point that the child actually does not like much food and begin to choose the strong, sweet and salty taste. Once the child receives his pocket money and can He chooses by himself, we no longer have a chance to influence him,” recalls Hrnčířová from Charles University’s Third School of Medicine.

If children taste new things only in the presence of friends, then parents can use, for example, birthday parties.

Some children do not need to be hungry. He predicted that if the parents allowed them to get hungry, they would start enjoying the food. This is not the right way, says the food therapist: “They will not start eating. These children should learn the rituals of breakfast in the morning and lunch at noon.”

Sweets from two years ago

Children under the age of two have no room in their diet to consume added sugars, the food processor is convinced. “This would limit the diversity of the diet.”

“Preschoolers need more energy, we can give them some sweets and we don’t have to be too strict. But sweets definitely haven’t been eaten in two years”, emphasizes Hrenzova In Radio Wave Swings.

The menu for preschoolers should gradually approach the adult diet, of course without addictive substances, caffeine, large amounts of salt and sugar.

When it comes to sweets, you have to pay attention to the amount of sugar they contain. “If we look at breakfast cereals, there are at least two sugar cubes in one small serving. It’s bad.”

However, it is also not better to limit yourself to sweets, the food processor continues. The task of parents is to teach children moderation.

“If we refuse to give sweets to children completely in childhood, and when we control them, it can happen later that they are what is called breaking the chain. It is better to teach that sweets are part of nutrition, but there is a problem when there are too many of them.”

Hrnčířová sums up a little sweetness two or three times a week, a daily chocolate bar and sweet drinks.

“The problem is when children are served sugary drinks in nurseries or kindergartens. The child automatically always reaches for sweets. But in the kindergarten they told me they are happy that the children at least have something to drink, so they try to compromise and not over-sweeten.”

What are healthy habits?

According to Hrnčířová, healthy eating habits mean that a person does not have to think as much about what they eat. “Because he automatically chooses what is suitable and healthy for him. Sometimes, of course, there can also be unsuitable foods.”

“The right habits lead to a fairly balanced diet in adulthood. We don’t have to decide whether or not to have larger or smaller portions for lunch. If we have or feel nothing. Because the main part of the eating system is very automatic. So for us that we don’t actually pick like ‘fries, a frying pan, and lemonade all day.’ I automatically drink water, not sweetened soda, though I can get a cup here and there.”
