The Ministry of Education is currently preparing for the new school year, when tens of thousands of war refugees from Ukraine must attend Czech schools. Their exact number is still unclear.
Last week, Balach said he expected about half the number originally estimated at 130,000. It is likely that the ministry will receive more accurate data from schools at the beginning of September. According to Fiala, the schools and the ministry are fully prepared for the access of Ukrainian students to the schools.

“We can be sure that from September 1, full classes will start for Czech and Ukrainian children and students,” said the prime minister. According to him, the Ministry of Education prepared support activities to facilitate the integration of Ukrainian students, for example, gave schools the opportunity to adjust the scope of education.
So far, Pallas said, the ministry plans to support a drop in Ukrainian students’ interest in secondary school studies through a campaign on social networks. So far, he says, almost a third of the expected number of Ukrainian pupils have attended secondary school.
In addition to integrating Ukrainian pupils and students, Balach and Viala also discussed investments in educational infrastructure at Tuesday’s meeting. After the meeting, Viala stated that the goal is to create about 10,000 new places in schools by 2028, mainly in the ring around Prague.
