Tennis player Petra Kvitova turned a dramatic duel in the third round of the US Open against Spain’s Garbeta Muguruza and after winning 5:7, 6:3, 7:6, she reached the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows.
The Czech ranked No. 1 and ranked 21 cleared two game points against the tenth player in the world to turn the fourth point in the tiebreak to 12:10.
For her third US Open quarter-final participation, she will face American Jessica Pegula, who defeated the Chinese yuan 6:2, 6:7, 6:0.
32-year-old Kvitova defeated Muguruza for the sixth time in a row. Belovic’s home recorded her 15th victory in her last 18 matches and reached the last 16 of the US Open two years later. In a match that lasted 2 hours and 41 minutes, she played 42 winning balls and compensated for 12 double faults.
Kvitova started the duel with Muguruza better and got a break in the sixth game. But she did not confirm this immediately and soon lost service again. Even due to five double faults, she lost the first set in 45 minutes.
The two-time Wimbledon winner left the court for a while and in the second set she again captured her opponent’s serve in the sixth game. She was 100% in submission and finished the group with an ace, she had ten of them on her account.
In the deciding set, Kvitová lost the sixth game by sending herself, even Muguruza led 5:2. However, she did not serve the match and did not use Kvitová’s two match points to serve at 6:5.
The dramatic duel culminated in a brief match in which the Czech tennis player was unable to finish the match. It wasn’t until Kvitova’s fourth game point that the Spaniard sent the ball into the net and the world number two could celebrate.
Two-time Wimbledon champion qualifier Russia’s Erica Andreevova was ousted at the start of the tournament, and another competitor from Ukraine, Anhelina Kalinin, withdrew due to illness.
Lucy Hradika and Linda Noskova in the doubles did not follow up on victory from the opening round over sisters Venus and Serena Williams. They lost with Chilean-Slovenian pair Alexa Guarachiová and Andreja Klepačová 6:7, 7:5, 3:6 and were eliminated in the second round.
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated American Jenson Broxby three times 6:3 at the US Open in the round of 16. He still hasn’t lost a set in the tournament.
