Lufthansa canceled about 800 flights due to the pilot’s strike. Among them is the relationship between Prague and Frankfurt

Tens of thousands of people expect flights to be canceled on Friday due to the strike of pilots of German airline Lufthansa. Among the 800 canceled flights were also those on the Prague-Frankfurt am Main. Pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit has announced a day-long protest over disagreements over a pay increase.

Lufthansa said the canceled flights would affect about 130,000 passengers. This will apply to practically all flights from Munich and Frankfurt. At the same time, the company did not rule out canceling some communications on Saturday and Sunday.

None of the three planned routes between Prague and Frankfurt will fly on Friday, and cancellations apply to both directions. On the other hand, the connection between the Czech capital and Düsseldorf, served by Eurowings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, is fully preserved.

The reason for the strike is disputes over wages. Unions are calling for a 5.5 percent increase this year and the creation of a mechanism to allow growth to outpace inflation in the following years.

Lufthansa says such requirements would increase the cost of the cockpit crew by 40 percent. It itself proposes an increase in the basic monthly salary by 900 euros (22,000 CZK). She said this would represent an 18 percent increase in wages for apprentice pilots and a five percent increase for captains over 18 months.
