Monday’s tests confirmed 2,661 new cases of COVID-19, a five percent increase from last week. In another 1,207 people, health professionals suspected a recurrence. The number of hospitalized patients fell by a quarter in a week to 741 cases on Monday. This comes from the data on the Ministry of Health website.

By Saturday, the daily number of newly confirmed cases had fallen for ten consecutive days in a weekly comparison. On Sunday, there was one more case of positive tests. On Monday, the number of newly discovered cases increased by 122 compared to week after week.

Because of this, the weekly infection rate increased from 100 to 101 cases per 100,000 residents. The least favorable epidemiological situation is in the Hradec Králové region, where hygienists confirmed 114 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week. The capital followed closely.

On Monday, laboratories conducted more than 9,700 tests to detect a new type of coronavirus. A similar number for the first working day of the previous week.

The number of people hospitalized with a positive test for the coronavirus has returned to more than 700 after a weekend drop. On Monday, there were 741 people in hospital, of whom 28 were in serious condition. In a week by week comparison, the number of Covid patients decreased by 243.

Since the beginning of the epidemic in March 2020, more than 4.038 million cases of the new type of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. This number does not include the nearly 306,000 cases in which someone has repeatedly contracted the coronavirus.

So far, 40,805 people have died from the confirmed infection. On average, there have been about five deaths per day over the past week. The daily average since the beginning of August is ten cases.

About 6.889 million people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Czech Republic. More than 4.296 million people received the first booster dose and less than 153,000 in the second, and 4,083 doses were vaccinated on Monday, compared to 4,740 a week ago.
