Šwiateková becomes the first Polish woman to win the US Open today

World number one Polish tennis player Iga Swiatkova won the US Open for the first time. In the final, she defeated the top five players of the tournament Anas Gaberova of Tunisia 6:2, 7:6. She took her third Grand Slam title, and the second this year after Roland Garros. She became the first Polish tennis player in history to win on concrete courts in New York. She replaced the British Emma Radocano on the throne.

The 21-year-old Swiatkova has defeated Džábirová in three out of five matches. The 28-year-old Tunisian did not take advantage of her second chance this year to become the first Grand Slam winner from North Africa and the Arab world. Before the US Open, she did not even succeed in the Wimbledon final, where she was defeated by Jelena Rybakinova from Kazakhstan.

Swiatkova will receive a reward of $ 2.6 million (about 64.2 million kroner), Diperova will receive half.

Two-time champion Roland Garros Šwiateková had the best start to the match and thanks to an early break, she took a 3-0 lead. Although Džábirová also managed to break her serve, the Pole won three straight games of 3:2 and won the set in 31 minutes. She scored 11 winning balls, and Dabirova had six of them.

Swiatkova also played well in the second set. In the second half, she won the opponent’s serve, confirmed the break, and, at 3:0, had three chances to get the opponent’s next serve. But she did not use it, then lost her serve twice and tied the Tunisian at 4:4.

At 6:5, the Polish woman got the first point on her opponent’s serve, but did not convert it and the match ended in a shortened match. In it, both opponents struggled with service. Shvyatkova lost his serve four times, and Dipyrova lost five times. Thanks to two breaks, Polka turned the game from 4:5 to 6:5, and after an hour and 53 minutes of play, she won the match.

Šwiateková became the 10th tennis player in the so-called Open Era to win Roland Garros and the US Open in the same year. She is also the ninth player to win her third major tournament before she turned 22. She won her seventh title of the year and won her tenth consecutive WTA title without dropping a set.
