The epidemic of the Corona virus in the Czech Republic accelerated, Friday, for the fifth time in a row. There were 2,326 newly confirmed cases, which is up from a quarter more than a week ago. This comes from the data on the Ministry of Health website. The number of hospitalized patients is still lower in a week by week comparison. As of Friday, there were 702 people infected with COVID-19 in hospitals, which is 24 patients less than a week ago.

The increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus nearly accelerated last week. Only on Saturday and Sunday the spread of infection slowed for a short time, but this week, starting on Monday, the epidemic accelerated steadily again.
Throughout this week, the number of people tested for the coronavirus is also increasing. On Friday, 5,284 PCR tests and 3,668 antigen tests were performed, a total of 15 percent more than last week. Although the number of people tested increased, the ratio of cases detected to the number of tests performed, in all groups, also increased. In the category of the most numerous – diagnostic tests, in which people with symptoms of the disease are tested, the percentage of positive tests increased from 30.73 percent the previous Friday to 32.13 percent.
The infection rate, that is, the number of new cases of infection in the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, has also increased. As of today, there are 116 cases, which is four more than Friday and 14 more than last week. The infection number remains the highest in the Hradec Králové region with 142 cases and the lowest in the Karlovy Vary region with 96 cases.

The gradual decrease in the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19, which has been going on since the beginning of August, continues. However, the difference is only small in comparison from week to week. As of Friday, there were 702 people in hospitals, just about three percent less than last week. However, the number of critically ill patients has increased from 26 the previous Friday to 33 currently.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in March 2020, nearly 4.06 million cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. This number does not include cases in which a person has been repeatedly infected. Suspected re-infection is around 315,000. During the entire pandemic period, 40,905 people infected with covid-19 have died. There have been 47 deaths in the past seven days, which is four times less than the previous week.
About 6.89 million people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Czech Republic. More than 4.3 million people received the first booster dose, and about 199,000 the second. On Friday, 6,140 people were vaccinated, which is about 1,700 fewer than last week. Modified vaccines for new variants of the coronavirus from Pfizer / BioNTech arrived in the Czech Republic this week. According to the Ministry of Health, the new Comirnaty Original / Omicron BA.1 vaccines have been distributed to several vaccination sites and others can order them from the distributor. The office did not mention the number of these places and which ones exist.
