For several years, an intelligence agent of the Russian Military Intelligence (GRU) has been circling between the officers of the headquarters of NATO and the US Navy in Naples, Italy. On Friday, international media wrote about it, for example La Repubblica and investigations server Bellingcat.

A woman with a Russian passport named Maria Adela Kuhfeldtová Riverová has traveled to Europe at the latest since 2011 and settled in Italy around 2012. In Naples, she founded a jewelry production company and was involved in social life there.

In 2015, she became the secretary of the Lion Club Napoli Monte Nuovo, which was her ticket among the Allied soldiers. The association and its members were officers from the joint headquarters of NATO and from the headquarters of the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet in Naples.

Good Relationships and Love Affairs

Thanks to membership in the club, women can participate in a number of social events for the soldiers of the alliance, for example balls or instrumental evenings. However, it is not clear if she even entered the headquarters complex itself. According to a German presenter quoted by Bellingcat’s servant, the woman was very active and maintained lively relations with the officers. She was in a relationship with at least one of them.

Her real name is Olga Kolobova, but she used the cover ID as “Maria Adela Kohfeldt Rivera”. In Naples, she was a social activist, goldsmith, and secretary of the local Lions Club frequented by a large number of NATO officers. She had romantic relationships with a number of NATO officers.

“Our investigative work was not able to discover what information the spy had access to or whether she was able to infect her friends’ phones and computers with viruses. She is in contact with key figures in NATO and the US Navy,” La Repubblica said.

According to Bellingcat, it is unclear whether Western intelligence services are aware of the alleged Russian spy. But the officers did not receive any warning from the security services before contacting them. The woman left Italy in 2018 and appears to have not worked abroad since then.

According to Bellingcat, several circumstances indicate that Rivera Kuhfeldt was not what she claims. For example, the parsonage was set up where he was allegedly baptized much later than the alleged ceremony.

Her story that her Peruvian mother left in the Soviet Union to attend the 1980 Moscow Olympics and never returned for her child is also highly unreliable.

Investigators found that the Russian dissident Nemtsov had been under surveillance by an FSB agent for a whole year before the murder.

In addition, the Bellingcat server, comparing photos in Russian databases, came to the conclusion that Kuhfeldtova Riverova is in fact Olga Kolobova, the daughter of the former director of the Yekaterinburg Military University.

According to the server, Kuhfeldtová Riverová did not have a digital footprint in Russia until October 2018, when the alleged Kuhfeldtová Riverová left Italy. Then she bought a luxury car and two apartments in Moscow, which seems to be beyond the capabilities of an employee of the Pension Fund, which Kolobova claimed to be. In addition, Kuhfeldt Rivera was using a passport from a series previously used by the GRU.

The portal The Insider and the German weekly Der Spiegel attempted to contact Kolopova through the Telegram platform and e-mail. However, they received no response from the woman.
